Our Story | Mayfield Creamery

Our Story

A Family Tradition Since 1923

Ever since my grandfather, T.B. Mayfield, shared his first batch of ice cream with our family and friends in 1923, our passion for making only the finest quality ice cream has never wavered. Today, almost 100 years later, I’m proud to say that we still use fresh cream from our own dairy to ensure we continue to deliver the genuine Southern homemade taste beloved by generations of Southern families.

Genuine Southern
Homemade Taste

Times may change, but our approach to ice cream has stayed the same. For over three generations, we’ve used family recipes, fresh cream from our own dairy, and ingredients sourced from only people we trust. It’s all part of our promise to provide only the finest quality ice cream to you
and your family.

Our Doors Are Always Open

No tours at this time due to COVID-19. Visitor Center gift shop and ice cream parlor are open Thursday and Friday 10 am until 5 pm and Saturday, 10 am - 2 pm.

Nothing gives us more pleasure than sharing our ice cream with our family and friends. We invite you to come visit our original creamery in Athens, Tennessee, to see (and taste) what makes Mayfield ice cream so special. You can take a behind-the-scenes tour and sample a wide variety of our signature ice cream flavors. We look forward to having you!

Maggie the Cow

Our mascot, Maggie, is more than just
a pretty Jersey cow. Her rich and creamy milk is one of the reasons our ice cream tastes so good. And we’ll let you in on a little secret. Maggie is also our head flavorologist. She’s always on the lookout for delicious new ingredients for our limited-edition flavors, and she's delighted to be able to share her discoveries with you! When you see her on the carton, be sure to say hello!
